Tune up to the note. If a string is sharp, loosen it past the note, then bring it back up: it stays in tune longer.
Pluck one string and let it ring. Strumming them all at once leaves the tuner no single note to follow.
Low to high, the strings are E A D G B E. Both E strings are the same note, two octaves apart.
