Tap a string to hear the note it should be, then turn the peg until yours sounds the same.

Tune up to the note. If a string is sharp, loosen it past the note, then bring it back up: it stays in tune longer.
Pluck one string and let it ring. Strumming them all at once leaves the tuner no single note to follow.
The G string is tuned high, just under the A, not below the C. That is what gives the ukulele its bright, close sound.
